Details

History of this diamond is in dispute prior to 1928.  At that time it was owned by a private individual.  It went through a succession of owners until the Smithsonian acquired it.

Although I would construe this as a modern diamond, and hence not one I would have normally considered cutting, it is one of the largest octagonal step cut diamonds.  I didn’t have any in my collection, so this is it!  For a step cut stone, it is remarkably brilliant.
